Description
This is a 'modernisation', or rather 'zilla-ization' of the famous 'Dogs Playing Poker' by C. Coolidge.
Saw this a while ago and thought it would be a really cool thing to see dragons in place of the dogs. So just went for it really!
Although the style of the piece ended up being very 'me' I actually started it using a different technique to my normal fantasy stuff. The whole image was roughed out in an hour to get proportions and 5 different dragons, and then using one layer I just painted straight into it. Started on Friday night, finished 80% of it by early Saturday morning, then finished it off over Saturday and Sunday. Probably spent in excess of 20 hours on it all in all.
It took the most time doing the cards and the chips, I *hated* that part, but this is probably the most individually detailed piece I have done, not the least because it has five different dragons in it LOL. I wanted each dragon to have some personality and that was hard work. But I pleased with how it looks.
I tried to keep it fairly true to the original too. I think its got the right vibe compared to that, which I'm pleased about. Hate some parts of it tho, like the cards, which is why there are no 'face' cards. But I love the cheater on the right, he's my fav
