i wasn't going to do any more Dragon pics for a while, but u know how it goes, one moment minding ur own business, the next an idea pops into your head. I didn't know if this would work initially, or more importantly whether or not I was techinically capable of achieving the results I wanted. this image called for several items I haven't really tackled before - the crumped trouser effect and the newspaper. It was important that they blend in with the crispness of the render so I was a little worried that I wouldn't manage the level of realism needed.

the picture is based on a single pass render of the dragon posed on a 3DS mesh toilet. The walls and floor are completely photoshop, as is the dragons 'real' legs, the trousers and the paper.

The print on the newspaper caused to end of problems. to make the image work, he had to have a newspaper. This meant not only making a believable paper texture, lit and textured in photoshop, but also something to read on it. this was made in Adobe Illustrator and using the Liquify filter in Photoshop, was 'wiggled' into place.

I just loved the original image I had in my head of a dragon taking 5 minutes out from slaying knights and eating virgins to have a sit down to read the paper and have a smoke.
