"... Dratherald banked sharpley as Meryssa shouted over the whistling wind, 'There! that's it! I'm sure of it!'. Pointing down at the barren, parched ground, there was finally a tiny speck in the seemingly endless waves of the desert dune sea.
'How do you do that?' enquired the dragon 'we've been out here for a week now, and I've not seen as much as a dead lizard'. Chuckling to herself as her mount turned into the wind to land on the hot sands, Meryssa was filled with antisipation at what she would find. Yes, there it was, the unmistakable glow of the Jewel of G'fraxx, lost for a decade in the wilderness, standing high out of the sand. It had paid them to act on her hunch, coming out into the deep desert further than anyone dared go before. Her searching had paid off, the Elders would be pleased she thought to herself, if not a little lighter in pocket. But a tiny seed of doubt gripped her. would they get back after coming out so far? Their water reserves were dwindling and a storm was gathering on the horizon... "

Technical Stuff

Rendered in Vue D'esprit, well actually my first ever render in Vue :) (Smile) About a two hour set up and render. Dragon model and rider reference posed in Poser. 3 different render passes on the Figures were made, then dropped into the scene in photoshop where additions to the armour and saddle were added. The Dragon skeleton was rendered in 3D Studio Max and then touched up and added to the scene, as were the stone columns and the sword. The photoshop work took around a day to complete with lots of tweaks and additions to the scenery including blown sand on the dunes, palm trees, grass, most of the shadows and a lot of time on the rider and dragon.

Thanks to Abe123 for putting up with me asking questions like "is the third grain on the right far enough over" or "is the grass the right shade of 'parched'"

Finally I dedicate this submission to my beautiful fiancee Lorraine for putting up with me loosing a weekend to this work... thx babe :) (Smile)

finally, hope u like this... oh and don't pick apart the prose, its my first real try... and I'm gonna be sensitive about it :P (Lick)

OMG. You did that in Vue? You did a terrific job with the horizon -- that's alwawys given me a problem It's beautiful! I can see the two hour render, though. The more you add, the longer it takes. You are very patient.
