another attempt at a surreal abstract horror piece. Kinda enjoying the freeform aspect of the creation process, I like how I can just let some emotion and artistic frustration out without feeling I need a focus.

To start: this is absolutely breathtaking. Wonderful job. I've never seen an abstract horror piece like this, and I'm impressed by how perfect your interpretation of the style has lent itself to the genre. The mechanical elements, the drafting marks, and the variety of representational objects and ambiguous shapes are well balanced and composed. The open plane of semi-transparent surface dominating the lower half of the piece, and the under-layers melting through and revealing themselves underneath it create quite a mysterious play textures and depth. I like how you played with transparent and the solid, the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional throughout the piece. The composition is complex, but not chaotic. Your color scheme is well chosen as well. The rusted textures and desaturated colors give the objects and shapes an ancient quality. The contrast between the lighter areas and glossy highlights (such as the hematite-like eyes), with the dark areas and secretive shadows give the piece a broad range of values of light. The only harsh critiques I would give you, is that some of the areas are a little too "computer rendered" to my eye. The area that I think should be refined a little more, is the center-right portion containing the largest of the creature-eyes. The shadows, highlights and textured shadows falling across it could be a little more realistically rendered. I think some added shading would bring it up the more representational level, and a more believable three-dimensional space. The concept of the piece is a knock out. Not to get too dramatically poetic, but one of the many mysterious and delightfully creepy images it brings to my mind, is what an aerial shot of a work surface, like a drafting table, within the private lair of an ancient, dark, evil genius, master of hell deep in the bowels of a hidden dimension would look like. Very nice indeed.

well, not every stock artist loves what I do with their work... given that I tend to twist things around so much. I never assume the stock artist will heap praise onto me ;) Not to mention my work being subjective at the best of times :D
